Bikers take cheque to Macmillan

OVER 30 motorcyclists from the Sleaford area met up on the outskirts of town before riding to the head offices of Macmillan Cancer Support in London to present a cheque for £16,700.

The money was raised through the Sunset to Sunrise Tour, an annual event involving an overnight ride from Holyhead in Anglesey to Skegness on the shortest night of the year.

Steve Freemantle, of Ruskington, chairman of Bikers 4 Macmillan, said the 120 riders who took part in this year’s tour had to contend with seven-and-a-half hours of non-stop torrential rain. The ride is organised by the Bikers4Macmillan group who arrange various motorcycle trips for members as well as the Sunset to Sunrise Tour.

Other local riders who went down to London included Paul Underwood of Billinghay and Sarah Birch and Jon Caffrey of Cranwell.

They were joined by dozens of other riders from around the country as they approached London.
