Breaking News: Car Crash in Mablethorpe Injures Couple

Thursday 2.25pm A CRASH in Mablethorpe earlier today has left an elderly holidaymaker fighting for her life.

A grey Renault Megane smashed into the front of the Step In Store after the tow cable that was pulling it disconnected.

The car smashed into the front of the store and trapped an elderly couple who were looking into the window at the time.

"I heard the noise of it going into the window and saw a man fall over on one side," said Barbara May, who was working in Shoe Zone across the street at the time of the accident.

"We can't see anymore and the police have covered the vehicle," she added.

Paramedics attended the scene and the Air Ambulance was called. It landed at Fullbeck car park to escort the elderly lady to Pilgrim Hospital in Boston where she has been taken to A&E. The gentleman was taken by ambulance to Boston.

Two fire crews, two ambulances and police were also present at the scene.

The elderly couple have been identified by police as an 89-year-old man and an 87 year old woman.

"They sustained leg injuries including double fractures of the tibular and fibular bones. Both have been taken to Pilgrim Hospital in Boston for emergency treatment. The woman was taken with the aid of the Air Ambulance," a police spokesperson said earlier today.

The police have proceeded to cordon off the area and restrict access to traffic and pedestrians.
