MORE volunteers are needed to help a Metheringham based charity achieve its fund-raising target.

The Sleaford Standard’s adopted charity for the year, the Metheringham Animal Welfare Supporters (MAWS), have reported a disappointing year in raising money for their chosen charities so far and are appealing for help to join them on their annual Mad Fortnight, traditionally their most successful fund-raiser.

This year Mad Fortnight will take place from Monday, June 28 to Sunday, June 10, members of the MAWS group and volunteer helpers ‘carry the can’, going from door to door in the Metheringham area and surrounding villages appealing to the public for donations.

The four charities which are to benefit from MAWS’ current fund-raising year are Cats in Crisis in Lincoln, Radcliffe Donkey Sanctuary near Alford, New York Ferret Rescue and Parrot Line in Friskney.

The group is keen to recruit more people to help with the collections to ensure that as much money as possible can be collected for their four animal related causes.

Joyce Muncey, MAWS co-ordinator, said: “We are desperate for volunteers to help ‘carry the can’, even if it’s only down their own street. Any would be greatly appreciated.

“We call it the Mad Fortnight because you have to be slightly mad to do it but we have a great time going out there and we meet some very nice people.”

All collectors will be issued with photo IDs in advance and will be carrying MAWS collection boxes.

MAWS are also still appealing for readers to donate any empty ink cartridges and mobile phones which they can then trade in for more funds.

For further information, or to volunteer to help out during the Mad Fortnight, contact Joyce on 01526 321436.
