CHURCH RESTORATION – Phase one of the remodelling of the historic church of All Saints in Hough on the Hill was celebrated at a Service of Dedication earlier this month.

The service was conducted by the Rev Alan Littlewood.

The work carried out on the church has provided improved catering and toilet facilities.

Many of those involved in bringing the scheme to fruition spoke at the event, including Michael Blades of the Parochial Church Council and chairman of the Hough Community Project committee, former parish vicar the Rev Alan Fiddyment, Graham Cook, architect for the scheme, archaeologist Naomi Field and Michael Kennedy, from WREN Lincolnshire Grants Panel.

Churchwarden John Lord said: “We are delighted that after many years of hard work we can at last celebrate completion of this first phase of work to restore the church to its rightful place at the centre of our community life.

“We have a wonderful building and the remodelling works needed to be highly sensitive, particularly the re-siting of monuments, the choice of materials and the blending of new with old.

“The quality of the workmanship is superb, and the space is now much warmer, brighter and more welcoming to all.”

The total cost of this first phase of works was approximately £80,000. It was funded by a £40,000 grant from WREN, a £15,000 donation from Peregrine Cust, a member of the Brownlow family, £15,000 in grants from Lincolnshire County Council and South Kesteven District Council, £5,000 from the Parochial Church Council and £5,000 from the Hough Village Hall Fund.
