AFTER three years of hard work and planning, a community project is finally complete and brand new facilities are now available in a Cliff village.

The official opening of The Venue in Navenby took place on Thursday with plenty of well-wishers celebrating the project coming together, with the Lord Lieutenant of Lincolnshire Tony Worth officially opening the new building on Grantham Road.

As part of the ceremony, County Councillor Marianne Overton, member for Branston and Navenby, presented a plaque commemorating a community grant of £50,000, jointly funded by Lincolnshire County Council, which contributed £41,667 and North Kesteven District Council, which provided £8,333, as well as a grant from WREN.

Coun Overton said: “This is a terrific flagship project for Navenby and the surrounding villages, for North Kesteven and for Lincolnshire. Congratulations, it’s a great credit to all involved.

“This has been a huge commitment, but the business case stacks up, assuring The Venue’s future. I have every confidence the centre will continue be full, buzzing with activity and an enormous success.”

The new centre boasts a main hall to replace the village hall (which will now be used by Navenby primary school), a club room which can be used by local sports and dance groups and a village office for the parish council and NKDC Access Point services.

There is also a pre-school facility and a suite of four FA standard changing rooms for sports teams and two for officials.

At the event, the Navenby Women’s Institute planted a commemorative Christmas tree to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, and the bowl’s club also held a demonstration showing off their new indoor facilities.

Donations and contributions from many village, county and country-wide organisations have also made the Venue possible, including the Football Foundation, Awards4All Lottery Fund, Jackson’s building supplies, Navenby parish council and Navenby Junior Football Club.
