Community unites over ‘anti-social behaviour’

RESIDENTS are joining together to make their village a better place, and need more volunteers to join their quest.

People living in the new village of Greylees, outside Sleaford, have decided to form a residents association to help tackle any issues after advice from North Kesteven District Council, and are appealing to other residents to get involved.

A meeting was organised by Greylees resident Tim Eccles via Facebook last Wednesday for villagers to discuss problems, including youths allegedly causing disturbances, speeding and inconsiderate parking around the roundabouts.

The meeting was chaired by North Kesteven executive board Coun Mike Gallager, joined by ward member Coun Geoff Hazelwood, a representative from the police anti-social behaviour team and PCSO Amy Michie.

A major concern raised by the residents was the amount of youths hanging around the estates from 10pm onwards, making noise, drinking and skate boarding, as there are no facilities or play areas in Greylees for young people.

Crime figures for Greylees in the last six months were provided, where it was found that there has been nine recorded crimes in the Greylees area in the last six months, of which six were classified as anti social behaviour.

Mark Cotes, Technical Director for the estate’s developmers, David Wilson North Midlands, told the Standard later: “All the obligations of the planning consent for our De Vessey Village development have been fulfilled. It was not a request of the local authority that a play area or village hall be provided, only open spaces, of which there are many at the development.

“We will continue to work closely with the council and the residents to bring about the development of the future phase of this scheme in a way that will be of most benefit to the community.”

The residents were encouraged to call Lincolnshire Police on 101 if the bad behaviour continued.

The next meeting for anyone interested in joining the Greylees Residents Association group will be on Wednesday April 18 at 7pm at Rauceby village hall.
