A FORMER Billinghay couple have just celebrated 50 happy years together, and were pleasantly surprised when friends and family dropped by to mark the occasion with them.

George and Elsie Presgraves were employees of Bateman’s Brewery when they met, George as a delivery driver and Elsie as a caretaker, and they married at Spilsby Register Office on September 29 1962.

The couple lived in the caretaker’s house that came with Elsie’s job, where she worked until she was 80, then they moved to Billinghay 12 years ago before moving to their present location at The Limes Care Home in Scopwick.

Three generations of the couple’s family came along to enjoy a party in their honour organised by care home staff. George has a son, Keith and Elsie also has a daughter, Maureen, from their previous marriages. In their younger days, George and Elsie enjoyed going dancing every Saturday night in Skegness, and Maureen thanked the staff for their efforts as they were delighted to hear some of the songs they used to dance to played at the party.
