Jubilee parties get council funding

SLEAFORD Town Council has awarded grants to help seven groups of residents celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee around Sleaford.

Grants come from the Town Fund, made up of unclaimed councillors’ expenses and were condieered by the fund’s management committee made up of town councillors and officers from the Lincolnshire Community Foundation which administers the fund.

A total of £1,500 has been awarded. Sleaford Cricket Club will receive £250 to host a traditional family fete on June 5 with stalls, games and cricket for all ages. Quarrington Jubilee Committee gets £250 towards The Big Lunch on June 3 with children’s entertainments and mementos. The Greylees Engagement Network receives £250 for a community event on June 5 including family tea party, tree planting, dog show and competitions.

Sleaford New Life Church gets £150 towards a family fun day on June 3. A traditional street party with face painting, barbecue and bunting put on by residents of Brecon Way and Grampian Close on June 3 will get £200, while Spriggs Close residents get £150 for their street party for older people and their families, to cover costs of decorations, entertainment and the village hall hire if the weather is poor.

Another £250 is going towards a family picnic on Boston Road recreation ground for Sleaford residents, paying for food, prizes and decorations.

Shelagh McIntyre, Sleaford Town Clerk said: “The Town Council is pleased to be able to offer a small amount of money to help communities come together to celebrate this important national landmark. The events will encourage neighbours to meet, chat and discover shared interests, helping to produce a more joined up, cohesive neighbourhood.”
