A COMMUNITY near Sleaford is doing its bit to commemorate the forthcoming Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations happening this year.

Osbournby Parish Council has reached deep into its limited resources to help fund a fantastic new bench for the village green as part of their celebration of the Queen’s Jubilee.

Local residents have been working with artsNK to design the seat, learn how to carve it and produce ten panels which will make up their new piece of village furniture.

The artwork has been inspired by the intricate and beautiful pew ends in the parish church and has been designed by the group to reflect what they consider to be special about the village of Osbournby.

The detail, quality of carving and the distinctive design is incredible considering most of the group had never picked up a chisel or mallet before.

Having completed an ‘apprenticeship’ piece they have worked painstakingly to create low relief designs on the shaped back, produced by local craftsman, chairmaker and wood expert, Peter Tree, of North Rauceby.

Peter now has all the completed bench backs at his studio in North Rauceby and, thanks to the generous funding from the parish council, will be building the new seating, to go on the village green, ready for the unveiling in June.
