New parade protocol for dignitaries

A NEW protocol has been agreed for civic dignitaries attending the town’s annual Remembrance Sunday Parade.

The matter was brought up at the latest Sleaford Town Council meeting by council leader Brian Watson.

He explained the parade had always been a town event in conjunction with the local branch of the Royal British Legion, with town council members always attending.

But in recent years leading officers and councillors of North Kesteven District Council have also been invited by the British Legion.

Then, when the previous town clerk was ill, the duty of calling the parade was handed to the chief executive of the district council.

Mr Watson pointed out that over time, more and more district council members were attending, until last November the town council representatives found themselves at the back of the parade.

He has now contacted the chairman of the British Legion branch, Lt Col Ian Graham, who has agreed to a revised marching order for the parade in view of the new town clerk Shelagh McIntyre taking back the duty of calling the line into order.

District councillors will now follow behind members of the town council, with the Mayor and the chairman of NKDC further towards the front.
