One week left to give views on pool design

RESIDENTS have just one week left to give their views on the proposed Sleaford Leisure Centre swimming pool redesign scheme.

As part of its £2.6m refurbishment plan for the Eastbanks facility, North Kesteven District Council has consulted widely to gather a broad range of views and opinions on what should be included.

The online survey is available on the NKDC website and follows a series of consultation events with swimmers, swimming clubs and local residents and businesses. All comments received will be fed back into the design process.

Bosses have accepted existing Sleaford Leisure Centre has come to the end of its working life in its present state as it struggles to meet modern demands of customers and users. With more than £400,000 needing to be spent on repair and maintenance of the current complex and costs anticipated to escalate in excess of £1.25m over the next 10 years, the council saw it as better to make comprehensive improvements to enhance the facilities.

Council Leader, Marion Brighton, said: “As a council we are committed to sport and culture and the future of Sleaford Leisure Centre remains an important aspect in this.”

The plans include: remodelling of the building to make more effective use of the internal space and improve the energy efficiency; equipping it to make use of ‘free heat’ from the straw-burning power station being built at Kirkby la Thorpe, saving £25,000 in the centre’s annual running costs; re-planned, refurbished and relocated changing areas, with unisex changing for swimming; extended gym area providing 23 extra fitness stations; improved entrance and reception area; deck-level drainage and re-graded pool floor. Also improved acoustics in the pool hall, separation of wet-side and dry-side users, spectator area and tidier storage of pool equipment; additional new fitness studio and external improvements including cladding and a glass canopy to the entrance.
