NEW starters at the William Alvey School in Sleaford were given a treat to help prepare them for their new school.

On Monday, the new reception class children came in for a half-day taster session to help them get used to the school’s routines.

Each child has been allocated a Buddy, a Year Five child, to take them under their wing in their first year and at the end of their session the reception children and their Buddies, plus their favourite teddy bears, sat down together to enjoy a teddy bears’ picnic, with a visit from Mr Bear.

Foundation Stage leader Christine Grimm said: “It is very nice because the older children remember their own Buddies. They have a sense of responsibility and it’s a nice way to get settled into school.”
