AFTER it was rescued from the brink of closure, Sleaford Youth Club has seen an upsurge of interest.

Sleaford New Life Church took over the running of the youth club following funding cuts to youth services, and after it’s relaunch where sessions were moved to a Friday, the club’s coordinators have reported an increase in numbers at the second session.

At it’s most recent session last Friday members, aged between 11 and 18, were offered a range of activities, such as table tennis, pool, hockey, PlayStation and Wii games.

The club also offers other activities, including music classes, cookery and arts and crafts. On Friday, members were able to make their own mini pizzas.

Paul Staples, New Life Church youth coordinator, said: “Friday’s session went very well. We had a great turn out, with 31 children, an increase on last week with 12 new people.”

Looking further ahead, the club coordinators are planning to hold a consultation with members to see where they would like to take the club and they are hoping to work with other community groups in the town to deliver life skills sessions in the future.

Mr Staples added: “We would like to encourage anyone in the town who would like to support us to get in touch. We are a community club and the youngsters are very important to the town. We want to be able to enhance our services for years to come.”

Any young people interested in joining the club, or wanting more information, can contact Paul Staples at the New Life Church on 01529 413063.
