Rotary swimmers set record

SWIMMERS who took part in the Rotary Club of Sleaford’s Swimarathon event in February helped to set a new world record.

The Guinness Book of World Records has now official confirmed that the Sleaford swimmers and others who took part in Rotary Swimarathon events around the globe at the same time earlier this year are all record breakers.

At Sleaford, 103 swimmers took part in the Rotary Global Swimarathon, which was attempting to set a new Guinness world record for the highest number of people swimming 100 metres non-stop between mid-day and 1pm (GMT).

Across the globe 4,546 swimmers in 23 countries and five continents took part.

A Rotary spokesman said: “They all have the right to call themselves world record holders. Together Rotarians, Rotaractors, Interactors and friends in 23 countries have achieved the biggest simultaneous swim recorded in human history.”

The next Rotary Swimathon event will be taking place in February, with the Rotary Global Swimarathon looking set to feature once again.

With more than 350 Rotary clubs already signed up to take part, another record could be on the cards.
