Round Table minibus for hire
SLEAFORD and District Round Table is reviving a fundraising tactic by buying a Community Minibus for hire.
Over the last couple of years a substantial amount of money raised has been set aside to purchase a minibus for the good of local clubs, groups and organisations that could not afford to regularly hire one from national companies.
In 2010, Andrew Crawford, chairman of the round table at that time came up with the idea. He said: “When I was a boy I remember Sleaford having a community minibus, run by the Sleaford and District Lions Club. In my year as chairman I wanted to do something different.” Rather than nominate a single charity he wanted to help lots by buying the minibus.
Fundraising efforts ranged from running casino tables to holding the Annual Ball as well as the very first Sleaford Oktoberfest in 2011. Sponsorship from Specsavers Sleaford boosted the pot allowing the group to buy a much newer vehicle.
James Coleman, Store Director of Specsavers Sleaford was delighted to help, saying: “To see the minibus being driven round town, helping the lives of others, gives me a great sense of pride. Specsavers of Sleaford are proud to be a part of that”.
Groups can hire the bus for a small fee plus the cost of fuel for the trip.
The Round Table will continue to fundraise to cover the main running costs including insurance and make it available to as many groups as possible, according to current chairman Neil Freeman.
Groups need to hold a Section 19 Permit (available for £11 from VOSA) and provide a driver between aged 21-70.
