Elm Tree Road, Ruskington, residents L-R Jacky Cooper, Mick Midgley and Val Midgeley, Christmas lights have raised 340 to be shared between Help For Heroes and St Andrews Children's Hospice.

The ‘Ruskington Illuminations’ will be switched on again in just two weeks time.

Neighbours Jacky Cooper and Val and Michael Midgley are once more planning to light up their neighbourhood with their impressive Christmas lights display on the exterior of their properties at 89 and 91 Elm Tree Road in the village.

Each year the two households join forces to cover the outsides of their homes with festive lights, including illuminated Santas, snowmen, reindeer and angels, all to raise money for local charities.

To keep things fresh, each year they include a new element which 12 months ago featured a sleigh, complete with Father Christmas and reindeer. This year the plan is to include a large plywood ramp with the sleigh sliding down it.

The official switch-on of the lights at the start of the festive season, which always brings in the crowds, will take place on Saturday, December 1 at 6pm.

Everyone is invited to attend. There will be a special visit from Santa and children will receive a present, a glass of juice and biscuits, while adults will receive a glass of mulled wine. There is no charge for the event but donations would be welcomed.

The lights will be switched on every day at 3.30pm and will remain on up to 9pm each night until the twelfth night on January 6.

All donations from the public from the switch-on and during the festive period will go to the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance and to St Barnabas Hospice. Jacky explained why they are supporting these charities: “St Barnabas do a fantastic job caring for people and we all hope there will always be an air ambulance but hope we will never need it.”
