A Paralympian and a Paralympic Torchbearer were just two of the stars hailed at a county awards ceremony last week.

Sports organisations and Sportsmen from Sleaford were recognised for their contribution to sports at the Lincolnshire Sports Awards on Thursday night, organised by the Lincolnshire Sports Partnership and hosted by radio and TV personality John Inverdale, with around 400 guests attending.

The Laffletics Club, based at Northgate Sports Hall and offer young disabled people the chance to play sports, and Heckington Paralympic seated discus athlete Kieran Tscherniawsky, were both named as runners-up in the Sports Club of the Year and the Disabled Sportsperson of the Year awards respectively.

Kieran also took part in the parade which officially opened the awards, which was also attended by Lincolnshire’s Olympians, Paralympians, Torchbearers and volunteers and received a standing ovation from the crowd.

Arts NK Dance were runners-up in the Contribution to Physical activity award and Peter Sumpton, of the Vitality dance programme, was also a runner-up in the Active 4 Health award.

Janet Inman, chief executive of Lincolnshire Sports Partnership said: “The 2012 Awards were a huge success, we celebrated and recognised some of our top sportsmen and women as well as volunteers, coaches, clubs and individuals whose lives have been impacted by sport and physical activity.”
