Strange sand creatures on beach

Wednesday 9.30am - STRANGE creatures have been spotted lurking on the sand at Mablethorpe beach recently, as preparations are made for Friday's sand sculpture competition.

This crocodile sand sculpture was produced last week along with other creatures including a giant squid and a collection of weird fish and whales.

Helen Scrimshaw who runs the competition through Mablethorpe Learning Centre where she teaches the group said: "We invite you to come and join the Seaside 09 community art group on Friday and have a go at creating a sand sculpture, and then watch it being reclaimed by the afternoon tide."

The event, to take place near the Lifeboat Station from 9.15am, is free and open to everybody. Professional sculptor artist Michael Scrimshaw will be able to give people hands-on advice and guidance on the day.

Helen added: "So dig out your bucket and spade, apply some sun cream and we'll see you on the beach – who knows what we'll find!"

This event is a culmination of a 15 week art course based at the

Mablethorpe Learning Centre on Seacroft Road. The adult group will also be joined by members of their sister course The Big Mablethorpe Picture, who will take photographs of the day to be exhibited at Marisco Medical Centre on July 3.
