Time for double celebration

CELEBRATION DAY - Ruskington is set to have two good reasons to celebrate next month.

The village’s Celebration Day activities on Saturday, June 2 have been planned to coincide with their celebrations for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

So with a day of double fun to celebrate the special royal occasion and all that is good about the village, Ruskington is preparing for an occasion to remember.

Celebration Day will begin at 9.30am and that will be followed by the unveiling of the village plaque at 10am.

Among the events and activities being planned, there will be food stalls at the Winchelsea Centre, a flower festival throughout the weekend at All Saints’ Church, craft exhibition at the Methodist Church and a display of classic bikes at the Red Lion.

Elsewhere the Ruskington Snooker Club are staging competitions and demonstrations and the bowls club are holding a ‘have a go’ day.

High Street South will be lined with stalls and there will be activity on the village beck too, with duck races.

The High Street stalls close at 1.30pm but the action will move on to Winchelsea School, where there will be an It’s a Knock-out style competition and much more.

All three schools in the village - Winchelsea and Chestnut Street primary schools and the St George’s Academy Ruskington campus - are giving their support to Celebration Day, with the programme of activities being hosted at Winchelsea starting at 1pm.

As well as a barbecue, there will be stalls, climbing tower, bouncy castle and displays of art and writing by pupils at all three schools on a Jubilee theme.

A planned flypast by the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Lancaster is expected at 1.45pm.
