Toilets to stay open for a year
NORTH Kesteven District Council and Sleaford Town Council have agreed a deal that will see the public conveniences in Money’s Yard, Sleaford, remain open for the next 12 months.
The two authorities met yesterday (Tuesday) and the town council agreed to take on a 12-month licence, starting on April 1. North Kesteven District Council will keep the toilets open until that date, when the contract begins.
Under the terms of the deal, the building will still belong to the district council but Sleaford Town Council will be responsible for the management of the toilets and fixtures and fittings.
The town council will also have use of the office/staff room attached to the building.
Both authorities hope they will be able to maintain the existing opening hours as currently in operation.
The district council is making a financial contribution towards the business rates.
Both authorities will review their position towards the end of the contract.
Commenting on the agreement, the leader of North Kesteven District Council Marion Brighton said: “We are glad to have been able to make progress on this issue, which will allay the fears of those concerned residents of Sleaford.
“It is so much more satisfactory when two authorities can work together in partnership for everyone’s benefit.”
Town council leader Coun Brian Watson said: “We are pleased to be able to safeguard this facility, for the time being, for residents and visitors to Sleaford. The town council will continue to explore alternative toilet provision.”
