Villagers celebrate Lottery windfall

PARISHIONERS in Heydour will soon be raising the roof for a much needed new community centre and parish hall thanks to a National Lottery grant of £458,133.

The money will be used to tear down the existing World War One officers’ mess hut and replace it with a modern and versatile community facility. The original hut is believed to have been liberated from Belton Park Machine Gun Corps and relocated to Aisby in Heydour parish in 1922.

The new village hall will provide a focal point for Heydour, Aisby and Oasby.

Norman Hatcliff, chairman of Heydour Parish Hall Management Committee, said: “The new hall will be a wonderful legacy for our community, our community’s children and the generations that follow.

“We expect to have all funds in place in the next three to four months so that we can start the project by mid to late September. We’re aiming to complete next summer, with a grand opening jamboree in June or July.”

The new hall will be built on the site of the original building and will include a multi-use hall, ameeting room, storage facilities, kitchen, bar/server area and changing areas for events and outdoor sports. WiFi and internet access will also be provided for residents, business users and local groups.

Overall the Hut to Hall Project needs to raise just under £750,000 and they are still £150,000 short.

The project has also received £25,667 from Lincolnshire County Council and South Kesteven District Council, £20,000 from the Garfield Weston Foundation, £3,000 from Heydour Parish Council and over £60,000 from the community in fundraising and pledges.

Thee next fundraising event will be the Midsummer Fund-Fest at Foxdale, Oasby, on the weekend of June 22-24.
