Boys’ 30ft climb for Tibs

John Wright and Eddie Bean of Metheringham were heroes after rescuing Ivy Cooks cat from a 30ft tree.

John Wright and Eddie Bean of Metheringham were heroes after rescuing Ivy Cooks cat from a 30ft tree.

CARRE’S Grammar School students John Wright, 16, and Eddie Bean, 12, were featured in the Sleaford Standard back in 1963 when they came to the rescue of Tibs the cat, owned by Ivy Cook of Princess Margaret Avenue, Metheringham.

They stepped off the school bus and were recruited to help rescue the poor moggy stuck 30 feet up a tree.

The pet was too scared to get down from the fork. Eddie scrambled up the tree and passed Tibs to John who brought it safely to the ground then went back to help Eddie regain his footing.

The pair were modest about their heroics suggesting it was quite an easy tree to climb and only the height of a house!
