Victorious village WI
Helpringham WI.
IT was victory year for Helpringham Women’s Institute in 1963, having been formed only five years before.
They were awarded the perpetual trophy for the most successful WI in Lincolnshire at competitions having won a string of events including prizes won at Scredington and Ingoldsby events by 16-year-old Joy Jenkins.
Other prizes had been picked up Lincolnshire Show and other events for handwriting by Mary Green and crafts by Eleanor Trafford and Marie Goacher.

* We have had a number of people contact us about Michael Porter’s old pictures of staff from Sketchley’s Sleaford factory.
Pat Banister from Heckington said his wife worked at Sketchleys in the ‘60s. He recognised the man second from the right in the July 11 nostalgia photo as the late Chris Smith, not Michael Smith as first thought. He went on: “The girl at the front may be Geraldine Ward. Stuart Stevenson was a Heckington lad and the son of the late Vic Stevenson who was a well known and long serving parish councillor.”
The Sketchley’s staff in July 4 nostalgia was recognised by Alan Bristow, now living in Adelaide, Australia, and Rex Underwood.

The picture was taken just before the factory closed in 1971-72, says Mr Bristow.
