Lionesses’ tribute to founder member

Meena Cuthbert

Meena Cuthbert

Sleaford and District Lioness Club has paid tribute to Lioness Meena Cuthbert who died last week.

She was brought up in the Lions family as her father was a member of the Lions Club of Nairobi and Kisumu, Kenya then after moving to the UK she was a founder member of Grimsby and Cleethorpes Leo Club.

In 1989 she became one of the founder members of Sleaford and District Lioness Club. She nurtured the club and all its members.

She used her cookery skills to start a series of very successful Indian cookery demonstration evenings. Last month she ran an amazing Indian take-away evening. She could always be seen on the Christmas stall selling her special recipe of mulled wine. Her organisation skills came to the fore whenever the club held an event to raise money to help the local community. She tackled everything with enthusiasm and her glowing smile.

Nine years ago at a Lioness Conference in Penrith, Meena was cajoled to join the National Advisory Body. The clubs in the UK and Ireland started to benefit from all her many talents. After running two successful National Conferences, she was busy organising the next National Conference in Peterborough for next February. Her belief in the organisation never faltered.

Her care for everyone whether the local community which the club serves or any member who would benefit from a kind word - or a smile – or a hug was limitless.

The club is devastated by the loss of such a beautiful caring person.
