A SPRING season of drama and concerts beginning with David Harrower's award-winning play Blackbird will open the new Lincoln Performing Arts Centre.
This critically acclaimed production won the Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Play in 2007.
The £6 million Lincoln Performing Arts Centre is the latest addition to the University of Lincoln's Brayford Pool campus and was completed in November 2007. It features one of the largest stages in the East Midlands and an auditorium with the capacity to seat up to 450 people.
The play will be coming to Lincoln from April 8 to 12 as part of its first national UK tour which will open at the Rose Theatre in London.
David Grindley's new production of Blackbird stars Robert Daws (The Royal, Jeeves and Wooster) and Dawn Steele (Monarch of the Glen).
An explosive, emotionally powerful two-hander, Blackbird reunites a man and a woman who had an illicit love affair 15 years earlier.
Blackbird premiered at the Edinburgh International Festival in 2005.
"The Lincoln Performing Arts Centre is home to the University of Lincoln's School of Performing Arts but it will also be a showcase for high-calibre theatre and performing arts," said Professor Michael Earley, Executive Director of LPAC.
"By opening our inaugural season with a new play of this pedigree, by one of the foremost playwrights of his generation, we are sending out the message that Lincoln is now firmly on the map as a live arts destination."
Performances begin at 7.30pm and there will be a matinée performance at 2.30pm on Saturday April 12. There will also be a free post-show discussion with the actors on Thursday April 10.
Tickets cost £15 and £10 and there is a concessionary price of £7.50 for students and OAPs. Parking is available on the university campus during the evening and at weekends.
Because of its adult themes the play is not recommended for under 16s.
