A SLEAFORDIAN has published a book about her own experiences of growing up in the town.
Betty Lang of Grantham Road, Sleaford has produced a book of over 50 A4 pages called Growing Up in Sleaford which looks at the town from the first fifty years of the twentieth century.
The book includes about 80 black and white photographs of various buildings, events and people of Sleaford.
Mrs Lang was born in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire in 1935 and was adopted when she was a few months old by Allan and Louie Ellis of King Edward Street, Sleaford.
Her father was a joiner, painter and decorator for JT Barnes and Sons of Eastgate and Southgate and her mother was a full-time housewife.
The book has been a keen project of Mrs Lang’s, especially as it encompasses two of her passions: history and writing.
She said: “I wrote the book as something to do and I am interested in history in general including the history of Sleaford. I have enjoyed putting it together very much.”
As she re-orders more copies, Mrs Lang plans to keep the book updated with things she has remembered about her childhood since the book was first published.
Despite her 72 years and being partially deaf, Mrs Lang has an adventurous spirit as she enjoys travelling to Eastern Europe where she travels alone.
She likes to go to places which suit her interest in early Christian history and write about them in a travel journal.
She has been to Greece, Turkey and Albania and is planning a trip to Montenegro in Albania this year.
l Growing up in Sleaford is available at S&D Cards on Southgate, Walkers book shop and Sleaford Tourist Information Centre at £7.99.
