TO celebrate the centenary of Agatha Christie's birthday, Sleaford Little Theatre drama group have chosen one of her classic whodunits for their autumn production.
Ms Christie's 100th birthday would have been on September 19, the Friday night performance of the play, Cards on the Table, which was adapted for the stage by Leslie Darbon.
The play centres around a group of characters assembled for a dinner party held at the home of host Mr Shaitana. Our host knows guilty secrets about each of the guests and shock waves are sent around the room when one of Shaitana's collection of daggers is used to kill one of the guests during a game of bridge, and frighteningly whilst everyone is present in the room.
The story moves to different locations during the play as each of the characters are interviewed by the police and each other, calling for five different sets, which has given the group quite a headache for such a small stage. In true Agatha Christie style all the characters are gathered in the final scene to unravel the clues and reveal the culprit.
Sleaford Little Theatre is also celebrating recently winning the regional award for the best amateur production for their autumn production last year of The Dresser which was awarded by NODA (National Operatic and Dramatic Association). The award is presented once a year and the local amateurs beat off strong competition from Spalding Amateur Dramatic Society and Bourne Players to take the 2007 trophy.
Performances for Cards on the Table are on September 16-20 starting 7.30pm.
The box office will be the Tourist Information Centre, Moneys Yard, Sleaford. Tickets priced £5.50 stalls and £6.50 gallery (£1 off for concessions). Telephone bookings can be made (Tel: 01529 414294)
