TEN motorcycling friends are determined to raise as much money as they can for Macmillan Cancer Support and with a combined age hovering around the 500 year mark, they also have a lot of experience to lean on.
Ride organiser Steve Freemantle, 53, from Ruskington, and nine of his motorcycling friends will be riding 1450 miles across 41 counties, over 48 hours in aid of the cancer support charity.
Steve said: “Each of us is over 40, the ride distance is 1450 miles, it will take us four days and we should average 40mph, so we decided to call it, The Over 40’s Ride.”
The riders will leave from RAF Cranwell on June 26 and finish on July 1 back at Cranwell in time for the RAF’s Macmillan Mile event, which each rider will participate in - wearing full bike gear.
Working to a tight schedule, they will be stopping at each county town hall to meet the mayor and Macmillan nurses for a photocall and fundraising opportunity.
Meanwhile they are busy fundraising and recently had the opportunity to pose for a photo with the Red Arrows at RAF Scampton.
The event was organised by Over 40 rider Steve Read, who works for Serco, based at RAF Scampton, and ties in nicely with their over 40 theme as the Red Arrows are also over 40.
The Over 40 Riders will make their next fundraising appearance at the BMCRC race event at Cadwell Park on April 27, where they will be patrolling the site in full riding leathers with collecting buckets.
