STAFF and patrons of a popular village pub are celebrating as it opens its doors again after being closed for six months.
The Royal Oak, a grade II listed building in Scopwick, suffered severe fire damage in October last year.
A large part of the roof and the first floor was damaged by fire and the rest of the building suffered smoke and water damage.
The pub was also home to landlady Angela Robinson and her family and they had to move into rented accommodation while major rebuilding work was carried out.
Angela said: “It has been a very stressful time but the hardest thing has been the timescale and not knowing how long it would all take.
“Because it’s a listed building the work has taken longer than I had hoped. It has been very hard living off site so it’s great to finally get back in and get back into a routine.”
The bar and lounge area has been redecorated and reopened at Easter but the dining room had to be rebuilt and only reopened this week, complete with a new colour scheme, a new lunchtime menu and evening specials.
Angela said: “Everything has been covered by the insurance but we haven’t been able to trade since October, so it’s good to and welcome everyone back in.”
As part of their reopening celebrations The Royal Oak is holding a new live music event on April 25.
