EDITOR - I am writing with regard to the article you have been running for some time, highlighting the plight of the roadside diner at Wilsford.
When one considers the debacle that has recently taken place over the lights in Sleaford, it would not be an unreasonable assumption to conclude that it is the same people trying to close down this perfectly safe and legitimate business. If not, th
ey must share the same office.
As a regular user of the A1, a very fast (70mph) dual carriageway, it is a common sight to see burger vans in lay-bys approximately two to three feet from very fast moving traffic. This to me is a far more dangerous situation than Wilsfod lay-by, where the diner is approx 60-70 feet away from the road.
As is often the case there doesn't seem to be any consistency. Whilst the local authority may say that what goes on along the A1 is not their domain, surely it can be used as some sort of guide.
As I have said in the press on a few occasions before, there is no such thing as a dangerous road. However there are approximately 30 million potentially dangerous drivers.
Let's not forget that the few crashes that have occurred at Wilsford crossing have been due to poor driving and not because there were some beefburgers being served. Leave the diner alone, it is providing a worthwhile service.
