EDITOR-I am a parent of two children at Church Lane School in Sleaford and am regularly appalled at the inconsideration of drivers parking outside the school in the morning and afternoon.

It is a narrow road to start with and has the fire station at one end, which requires 24 hour access for emergency call outs, and has little footpath to speak of.

I cannot believe that the worst offenders for illegal parking are actually parents
of children at the school, some of whom arrive at 2.20pm to 'get a space', albeit an illegal one, so that they do not have to walk very far when collecting their children.

There have been letters sent out to parents regularly asking them to be more considerate and to take the safety of the children into account, but to no avail. The school also has an agreement with Tesco that allows parents to park there at 8.45am and 3pm to make it safer and quite a few parents use this facility.

I think it will unfortunately take a serious or fatal accident to make the others, who are too lazy to walk, sit up and realise that their actions are putting lives at risk.
I have seen parking tickets issued on one occasion which made the parents move their cars but, as there is not a permanent traffic warden in the town, they were back in their usual spots the very next day knowing there was little chance of a second ticket being issued.

The PCSOs are there regularly but seem to have no effect on the situation, in fact they seem to just chat to the parents who are sitting there in their cars.

In the next few weeks there will be demolition followed by building work being carried out which will continue well after the summer holidays so God only knows what Church Lane will be like then.

Hopefully your campaign will make people think twice about where they park but I think this will only happen if it is a continuous programme and not something that fizzles out after a short burst of activity.
