SOME enthusiasts still braved the rain on the first day of Metheringham Airfield Visitor Centre’s open weekend.

But the crowds came out on Sunday with the warmer weather and the centre enjoyed a very successful day.

Chairman of the Friends of Metheringham Airfield, Shirley Donkersley, said the transformation was unbelievable which generated a lovely atmosphere.

She said: “People were sitting watching the Morris Dancers or going around the exhibits and listening to the Silver Sounds band.”

The wartime re-enactor groups were under strength due to demands from other events but still put on some skirmishing demonstrations. Visitors were interested in the new museum exhibits, the popular guided bus tours of the airfield and a briefing on the Vulcan bomber restoration. New were some war gamers doing table top battles of the Second World War and four pases by the Lancaster put the icing on the cake to make everyone’s day.
