A PUBLISHED writer came to Sleaford to share the secrets of his success with his young fans.

Children’s author Tom Palmer, well known for his football fiction books, paid a visit to Sleaford library and later called in at the mobile library at Heckington to talk to local children about how he came to be an author.

He said that his mum encouraged him to read books about football and rugby and that got him hooked on reading from then on.

As well as chatting to the children, Tom held a quiz for them and a penalty shoot-out.

Hilary Vamplew, Sleaford Library’s culture services advisor, bravely volunteered to be the goalkeeper for the shoot-out and managed to stop a few shots.

She said: “The children thoroughly enjoyed Tom’s visit. He interacted really well with them.”
