Be imaginative with new group for arty folks in Sleaford

A NEW art group has been set up for residents and tenants of community housing in and around Sleaford.

This relaxed, weekly group welcomes tenants living in Nottingham Community Housing Association properties in Sleaford.

The driving force behind the idea is Phillip Morris a resident of Sharpe's Warehouse, a block of apartments run by NCHA on Station Road, who has a strong passion for art which inspired him to set up the group.

There are 31 flats in the Sharpe's Warehouse development alone, and with no garden, the group gives residents an opportunity to socialise and have fun.

With the help of friend Theresa Oldershaw, Mr Morris has created a space where people can get together and have a chat over a drink and biscuits.

The main feature of the group is to promote art as a social and rewarding activity. Whether painting and drawing is your thing or you want to try something alternative such as clay moulding, then go along and have a go.

As an organiser of the group, Theresa Oldershaw explained that the meetings can be whatever you want them to be - if you are not keen on getting hands-on you are still welcome to drop in for a chat. Theresa believes the Arty Art group gives people the opportunity to have a break in a friendly environment.

The office at the complex where the group meet is free for other groups which residents may want to set up.

Donna Lake, a regular at the group, said: "I love coming here, I enjoy being able to do arts and crafts."

The group welcomes anyone willing to teach them new things about arts and crafts. Any donations of art materials will also be much appreciated.

The group meets on Wednesdays, 1pm-3pm, at The Office, 26 (third floor), Sharpe's Warehouse.
