Blitz nature reserve this weekend

Join the search for species on a BioBlitz of Whisby Nature Reserve.

Taking place on the evening of Saturday August 4 and through the day on Sunday August 5, it is a race against time to find, identify and record the biodiversity of Whisby Nature Reserve.

Organised by the Lincolnshire Naturalists’ Union, the BioBlitz will see experts, volunteers and members of the public joining forces to count as many species of animals and plants as possible in the Nature Reserve. Everyone is invited to go along and join in the fun.

The BioBlitz will start at 8pm on Saturday with an opportunity to get involved with bug-hunting in the fading light before the special moth-attracting lights are set up.

On Sunday, from 10.30am until 4pm, anyone can go along and meet the experts from the Lincolnshire Naturalists’ Union and learn how to record, capture and identify the things that they find, such as butterflies, dragonflies, beetles, plants and birds.

An amazing 2,795 species have already been recorded at Whisby Nature Reserve but there has never been such a concentrated period of wildlife recording activity. Family group or wildlife expert, you can stay for as long as you like, whether it’s a few minutes or a few hours. For information call 01507 526667 or email rshaw@lincstrust.co.uk.
