Christmas market a feast of festive fun

Sleaford will be kicking off advent in style with its annual Christmas Market on Sunday December 2.

The Town Mayor Trevor Mayfield and Town Cryer Geoff Brocklebank will be opening the event in the Market Place at 11am and festivities and gift shopping opportunities will go on until 5pm.

There will be stalls in the Market Place selling everything from toys to crafts and festive food.

Father Christmas will be in his grotto taking present requests and there is also an indoor craft market at St Denys’ Church Hall. Money’s Yard will play host to the live entertainment stage featuring a host of local talent playing seasonal songs, along with a travelling funfair.

School children and civic dignitaries will attend St Denys’ Church at 3pm for the annual Christingle service, followed at 4pm by carol singing in the Market Place and the switching on of the town’s Christmas lights by the mayor, Father Christmas and representatives of local schools.

The event coincides will the annual festival of Christmas trees held in Sleaford Methodist Church on Saturday and Sunday.

For £2 you can view over 70 beautifully decorated and themed trees from a wide variety of local businesses and organisations, and there will be refreshments, stalls, games and a children’s quiz, from 10am to 4pm on Saturday and 11am to 5pm on Sunday. A donation goes to the Lincs and Notts air ambulance appeal.

As part of the Christmas Market, the Catholic Church Hall in Jermyn Street will be hosting a range of stalls too, from 11am to 3.30pm, selling gifts, jewellery and crafts. Gifts and tins for Sleaford Community Larder.
