Concert band returns to play at new college venue for Christmas

Fourteen years ago the Sleaford Concert band performed its first Christmas concert in St George’s College.

On Saturday December 15 the band will return to St George’s to perform the 14th annual evening of traditional Christmas music and carols in the newly-completed concert hall.

Jim McQuade, the director of music, says he is hoping that the hall will be full to capacity with concert goers who are keen to take part in the Christmas spirit. He said: “The band really enjoyed performing to a sell out audience at the recent Poppy Prom and we are hoping that the Christmas Concert in this new venue proves just as popular.”

Guests will be seated at tables where they can enjoy a drink during the performance.

The concert starts at 7pm. Tickets are on sale from Wilcox and Carter Jewellers, Bristol Arcade, tel: 01529 307262. Adults £6, under 16s free accompanied by an adult. Refreshments include a bar, tea/coffee and mince pies. Tickets will be on sale at the door.

* A small group of musicians from Sleaford Concert Band will be leading an evening of carols and music on the train from Grantham to Skegness.

The Music Train events are organised by the Poacher Line Community Rail Partnership to raise awareness of the Nottingham to Skegness railway.

The informal event on Thursday, December 20, departs Sleaford at 6.55pm and Heckington at 7.02pm for travel to Bateman’s Brewery at Wainfleet with the band performing along the way and at the Windmill Bar where passengers can enjoy refreshments. Revellers catch the return train at 9.10pm to arrive back in Heckington at 9.51pm and Sleaford at 10pm. It only requires a normal rail fare.
