Farcical stage mystery... now with added bite
ANGUS and Ross Theatre Company brings Charles Ludlam's The Mystery of Irma Vep to two local venues this season.
This is an hysterical revival of the 1980s spoof of a Penny dreadful, bringing vampire comedy to Helpringham and Leadenham village halls.
The Mystery of Irma Vep is an unusual quick-change comedy that plunders and pastiches various literary classics and theatrical genres.
Audiences are treated to a high-paced farce, a scary tale, romantic melodrama and monstrous moments performed with skill and dexterity by Dominic Goodwin and Emanuel Brierley.
It is a well-known show in the States and was the most performed play across America in 1991. This tour sees the Mandacrest Estate, home of Lord Edgar and Lady Enid.
Lady Enid is Lord Edgar's second wife, though he has yet to recover entirely from the passing of his first wife, Irma.
The house staff, a maid named Jane Twisden and a swineherd named Nicodemus Underwood, have their own opinions of Lady Enid.
Watch as the two actors play all eight parts in an hilarious evening.
The show is at Helpringham Memorial Hall on Saturday October 17 starting at 7.30pm (Tel: 01529 421884). It will be at Leadenham Hall 2000 on Saturday, November 7 (Tel: 01400 272835).
