Festival will showcase new writing talent
THREE Lincolnshire writers are looking for new county based playwrights to take part in an exciting evening of performances, showcasing their talents.
The Lincolnshire New Writers' Festival will take place later this year at the Terry O' Toole Theatre, North Hykeham, on Saturday, October 16.
The event is being organised by established county writers Kei Bailey of Sleaford, Nathan Hughes, from Gainsborough, and Sonya Hundal, from Friskney.
Kei said: "We are looking for new or established Lincolnshire based writers to produce an original script lasting approximately 15 minutes, suitable for one or two actors.
"The subject and theme of each play is entirely up to the writer but must be suitable for a family audience.
"The evening will consist of 10 to 12 monologues and duologues, written and performed by the wealth of artistic talent we have in Lincolnshire's amateur and community theatre groups."
All the money raised from the event will go to help support the Lincolnshire Marie Curie Nurses.
Stuart Wyle, community fundraiser for Marie Curie Cancer Care in Lincolnshire, said: "Our Nurses work in the local community and this is such a wonderful community project, which will see lots of different writers and actors from across the county coming together to support the charity."
Marie Curie Nurses provide practical hands on care to terminally ill patients in their own homes.
Last year the 69 Lincolnshire Marie Curie Nurses provided 52,048 hours of care to 929 patients. The services are always free to patients and their families but each hour a Marie Curie Nurse is in a patient's home it costs the charity 20.
If you are interested in taking part in the showcase event, submit a single paragraph synopsis of your play, which should include a description of the actor(s) you envisage playing the role(s), and the first two pages of the script to kei.bailey@btinternet.com by Wednesday, March 31.
Plays will need to be completed by Friday, May 28 to allow for rehearsals to commence.
The event organisers are also on the look out for actors, directors and backstage crew from county based amateur dramatic societies and community theatre groups to get involved in the project.
