Gardens galore

WILSFORD will be hosting its annual open gardens event on July 4 and 5 with eight gardens taking part this year.

Visitors will have the chance to look around the well-tended gardens when buying a programme with some other events taking place around the village to celebrate.

The village shop will be open, selling ice creams, sweets and drinks, while The Plough Inn invites visitors to enjoy a pub lunch on either day as well as a full range of drinks.

Helping to organise this year's event and participating in the open gardens are Dick and Di Fairhead, who said: "All the gardens are so different this year and they all have their own unique points too."

St Mary's Church in the village is hosting a special attraction this year with an exhibition of wedding dresses dating from the 1930's to the present day. There will also be a selection of Christening robes and flowers on show. The church will be hosting a special preview on Friday night between 7-9pm. To round off the whole weekend the church invites visitors to the Songs of Praise service at 5pm on the Sunday.

Also opening their garden, Dave and Kath Smith said: "When we came to the village less than three years ago the garden was our dream. A third of an acre, blank canvas or rough cut grass on which to build our ideas."

Anyone wishing to attend the event can purchase a programme for 2.50 from the Wilsford Post Office/Shop now or purchase one on the day from any of the open gardens. The programme entitles the holder entry for both days.
