Gardens open for spring
GARDENS that opened for charities funded under the National Gardens Scheme in Lincolnshire raised £45,451 in 2011.
Erica McGarrigle of Lincolnshire National Gardens Scheme says: “This is a fantastic result considering the summer weather wasn’t brilliant, our best ever. We owe a huge thankyou to our garden owners.”
Donations are made to Macmillan Cancer Support, Marie Curie Cancer Care, Help the Hospices, Cross Roads Care, the Queen’s Nursing Institute, The Royal Fund for Gardeners’ Children, Perennial and the National Trust.
The first spring garden to open for the NGS is in the Sleaford area on February 25 and 26 at 21 Chapel Street, Hacconby. This garden has a wonderful collection of unusual snowdrops, together with hellebores and numerous other spring plants and bulbs. The owners, Cliff and Joan Curtis, are extremely knowledgeable gardeners and are very happy to answer any questions that a visitor might have.
Admission is £2, children free and a home-made tea will be available. Opening times 11am - 5pm.
Doddington Hall Gardens, near Lincoln will be opening for NGS on Wednesday March 21 from 11-4pm. Admission £5, children £2.75. A great garden with naturalised spring bulbs and scented shrubs.
