Go wild and enjoy the outdoors this summer
TO celebrate the sporting summer, the National Trust has surveyed residents across the Midlands to find out whether our favourite summer holiday games and pastimes have changed over the years.
Here in Lincolnshire ballgames remain the favourite, chosen by 29 per cent.
National Trust venues across Lincolnshire, including Belton House and Tattershall Castle, will be celebrating the games and activities of the past throughout the school summer holidays, with have-a-go archery and falconry and medieval games at Tattershall Castle on Sunday July 29 and August 5, to name but a few. A full list and holiday activity planner, as well as a voucher giving children free entry to National Trust places in August, can be downloaded at www.nationaltrust.org.uk/midlandsadventures.
“Many of us will have fond memories of the games we played in our own summer holidays,” said Beccy Speight, Regional Director of the National Trust in the Midlands. “We hope that people will share the games they enjoyed with their own children and grandchildren.”
Children visiting a National Trust place over the summer holidays can also tick off many of the charity’s list of 50 Things To Do Before You’re 11¾, which includes everything from running around in the rain and bug hunting, to setting up a snail race, damming a stream, flying a kite and making a mud pie. Children can pick up a free scrapbook and to do list.
Children can try pond dipping and embark on mini-beast safaris at Belton House on Wednesday August 1 and 22, as part of their Wild on Wednesdays throughout the summer holidays, and bug hunting at Woolsthorpe Manor on Thursday July 26.
