'Green' sculpture exhibition plans taking shape
AN exhibition to display sculptures focussing on green energy and sustainability is being launched by a man from Brant Broughton.
The 'e' exhibition of kinetic sculpture 2010–2012 has just been launched by Mark Clarke, 41, who is a teacher of design and technology, a kinetic sculptor and a partner at Craft Times.
He has been developing the idea over a number of years and planning this event for the last six months. Mr Clarke believes there is a need for green energy producing technology to be used in a more interesting and aesthetically pleasing way, particularly if it is to be used in environmentally sensitive areas and areas of outstanding natural beauty.
He also sees this approach being suitable for inner city areas where valuable space can be used for works of art that have the ability to generate energy.
He is searching for the East Midlands' most imaginative, creative, skilful and green individuals, businesses, students and school children, professional or amateur artists, sculptors, engineers, designers, inventors and DIY'ers who are invited to submit applications and contribute to the first 'e' exhibition in 2010. Some have already signed up but there is still room for more.
The exhibition will showcase the design and sculpture ideas for using wind, solar, human or other renewable sources to generate energy. With more and more wind farms springing up in rural locations and the government's push for micro energy production in the home, 'e' looks at alternatives to this ever increasing need for energy and more environmentally sensitive, sustainable and aesthetically acceptable solutions.
Mr Clarke said: "We are in discussions with North Kesteven District Council at the moment about a potential venue."
The first of three exhibitions would take place over the weekend of June 18, 19 and 20, 2010.
There would be an educational element involved too and Mr Clarke is signing up primary and secondary schools. He said: "There will be packs of materials for the schools to use so it will not cost much and some experimental 'smart' materials will be included."
The aim is to put on exhibitions in the following years to show progress of the designs towards becoming a reality as artists gain interest and potential commissions.
