* Halloween a time to throw a scary party

There’s a dark cloud settling over Britain. No one’s in the mood for fluffy bunnies or children’s clowns any more.

A new survey has revealed that when it comes to partying, Halloween is now our second favourite family celebration, behind Christmas. But instead of spending all that money on plastic skull masks, event organiser Polly Betton, author of Party! How To Organise A Brilliant Bash, suggests having some bad, clean adult fun.

She suggests having a bizarre theme. The Mexican holiday of Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is shortly after Halloween and provides an excuse for a riot of colour, or you could go for a Dead Celebrities theme.

Good cocktails can get a party swinging, so try a tequila sunrise for Dia de los Muertos, or Bloody Marys for dead celebrities. Try some of Betton’s recipes to get everything going, such as the cheese and pineapple hedgehog (pictured).
