THE weekend saw Sleaford’s second Oktoberfest entertain hundreds of people with a large selection of real ales, ciders, live music and a children’s fun zone.

Hosted by Sleaford Round Table, the event at Sleaford Rugby Club was first held last year and this repeat performance was held to raise money for local charities which this year included the Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance, Sleaford Community Minibus )for use by charitable organisations at a reduced rate) and Action For Belarus - the charity which brings children over here from the area contaminated by the Chernobyl disaster in the eighties.

Neil Freeman, chairman of Sleaford Round Table said: “It is a huge event to organise and it takes a lot of hard work, but we have such a great group of guys all doing their bit to help that. A massive thankyou has to go to everyone who sponsored the event, all the volunteers who gave up their time to help, but most of all the general public, without them there would be no event. This year was bigger and more successful than 2011 and we hope we can continue to grow.”

A highlight was the great turnout and atmosphere, attracting 1,500 people who all seemed to enjoy themselves. The event catered for beer, lager and cider lovers with supplies almost running out, while music enthusiasts listened to a host of live acts, both local and from further afield, on Friday night and Saturday. A wide variety of music was available from solo acoustic guitar to heavy rock, with every band member donating their time and effort for free.
