Schoolgirl singer Jessica promises night of Celtic folk and fun to help in Peru
A SLEAFORD student is putting on a fundraising concert to enable her to go and do voluntary work in Peru.
Kesteven and Sleaford High School year 12 pupil Jessica Bergner plans to travel with 14 other girls to Peru next year to take part in the World Challenge.
They will trek for two weeks across the South American country in order to do spend two weeks doing charity work in poor communities there.
She has to raise 3,800 by next May to donate to the charity, including covering her travel costs and has raised half of the target figure already. As a singer she decided it was a good way to keep the fundraising ball rolling.
Jessica who is busy revising for exams at the moment too, said: "I have been singing since I was in year nine. I did a talent show at school then sang in school musical productions before doing sets for my uncle, Micky McNulty's band, Ruff N Ready."
Mum Clare Bergner added: "She is getting quite a reputation around Sleaford for her singing voice. She has sung at a few of Cathy and Micky Mcnulty's gigs over the last year or so. She has also won the first heat of the Lincs Factor in Boston. She is through to the semi-final beating eight other artists.
"She has an amazing singing voice, I don't think she really has any idea just how good she is."
There will be solo spots by Jessica as well as Celtic folk music from Ruff N Ready.
She said: "I will be doing a bit of country, some classical and pop music. We are doing quite well selling tickets so far. It is a bit daunting but I'm trying to make it a really good night for everyone."
The concert will take place at Leasingham Village Hall on Saturday November 7 from 7.30pm till 12 midnight. There will be a bar and raffle available. Tickets are 6 and are available from 01529 413584.
Some tickets will be available on the night.
