Story of the silver screen

SLEAFORD Museum Trust is hosting a talk by Maurice Brader, an authority on the early cinemas of Lincolnshire.

Titled ‘The History of the Cinema, including Sleaford’ the evening should provide an intriguing glimpse of local entertainment on Tuesday May 29 at St Denys’ Church Room in Sleaford Market Place, 7.30pm.

Entry is £2 for non-members.

The museum group is busy at present with its plan to open a town museum at Monument Gardens in Southgate and there will be an update during the evening on the current situation. Anyone who would like to help with this project will be very welcome. * WELLINGORE author and biographer Roger Cole has studied the life and poems of wartime pilot John Magee in a fully illustrated book called Chase the shouting wind.

Magee was killed aged 19, while flying a Spitfire in 1941 and buried at Scopwick cemetery near his bases of Digby and Wellingore. Mr Cole give an illustrated talk and readings about the life of this pilot entitled High Flight (the name of his most famous poem) for the next lecture at Metheringham Airfield Visitor Centre in the old gymnasium tonight (Wednesday) at 7.30pm. Admission £5 to visitors.
