VIDEO - Sleaford Christmas Market

Waiting for Video...

A fine, crisp day drew out the crowds for this year’s Sleaford Christmas Market on Sunday which got shop tills ringing.

Stall holders of local produce and beers, mulled wines, animal charities, hats and gloves and tombolas drew the crowds.

Live music helped to add to the festive atmosphere, as townspeople enjoyed a Christingle service in St Denys’ Church, then the official switch-on of the brand-new seasonal illuminations by Mayor of Sleaford Trevor Mayfield with Father Christmas and schoolchildren, followed by open air carols. The day had been kicked off by the Town Crier and the mayor on board a sleigh.

There were craft stalls in St Denys’ Church Hall and the Roman Catholic Church Hall, Santa’s grotto and entertainment in the Riverside Church, fun fair in Money’s Yard and tree festival at the Methodist Church.

Town Council Clerk Shelagh McIntyre was pleased how well everythinghad gone in the first year of the council completely managing the whole event – last year being a joint project with Sleaford BID: “Everything we have learnt from the experience will be taken on board and, hopefully, improved for next year. I thank all the staff and volunteers who worked hard beforehand and on the day.”
