VIDEO - Sleaford Standard’s Rachel takes on The Widower world’s hottest curry challenge

Waiting for Video...

A restaurateur from Sleaford has been making national headlines after the first in 300 customers succeeded in conquering his curry challenge.

Mohammed Karim, of Sleaford, runs the Bindi Indian restaurant in Grantham and created the unofficial world’s hottest curry, The Widower, two years ago with the help of local chilli producer Fire Foods.

Many have tried and failed to eat the complete dish which comprises 20 super hot Naga Infinity chillis plus 10 finger chillis, five scotch bonnets, chilli powder and chilli extract.

This amounts to approximately 6 million on the Scoville scale of measuring heat in chillis, compared to anti-riot pepper spray at 4 million!

A doctor from Sudbrooke, near Lincoln, Ian Rothwell, shocked Mr Karim when he visited two weeks ago and completed the fiendish dish in just over an hour, despite hallucinating and having to go for a walk to clear his head.

So, the Sleaford Standard’s reporter Rachel bravely pledged to become the first female to beat The Widower – despite only being introduced to curries a year ago!

See how she got on and read more about it in this week’s Sleaford Standard.
