Whisby Nature Park walks are good for your health

HEALTH Walks are becoming popular throughout the UK and with New year's resolutions still ringing in your ears, you can now join in one locally to you.

The North Kesteven area now has its own scheme called NK Social Strollers.

In the surroundings of Whisby Nature Park, the new guided walk is for all to join in, although it is specifically designed for those aged 45 and over, or people who are less able. The first will take place on Wednesday January 13.

You will be guided around the short walk at your own pace by Fiona Evans, a trained walk leader.

The walk will be approximately 1.3 miles and will aim to take one hour, including a warm up and cool down.

The walk will include new exercise equipment installed in the park. Life Trail Fitness Stations (similar to those featured on BBC news earlier this week) provide a perfect way to gently exercise while socialising and meeting new people.

The walk is completely free to join in and will start at 11.30am from the Natural World Centre's reception area.

Donna Lill, Health and Sports Outreach Officer for the North Kesteven district, said: "We are hoping that in time we will be able to provide many more Health Walks throughout the area. Walking can be a very safe way to gain extra health and fitness benefits, while enjoying the great outdoors, especially in places such as Whisby Nature Park.

"Depending on the number of Social Strollers we would like to make this a regular stroll in the great outdoors, so come along and support your local Walking for Health Scheme."
